How to Write a Good Story: Setting

  So, some time ago we worked on characters. We worked on who the characters are and tips on how to create good ones. Today we will work on setting.
  Setting is the time and place the story takes place, or in other words, the WHEN and WHERE.

Time- Year, month, day, season, clock time, morning, afternoon, evening, light, dark, dawn, dusk, sun, moon, and stars are all forms of time.

Place- Building, city, state, country, geography, urban, suburban, rural, weather, indoors, outdoors, and landmarks are all forms of place.

How to Create a Realistic Setting-

• Try to base the setting off places you have been
• Use the five senses-Sensory Detail
• Help your reader feel like they are really there 
• Give the reader hits about time and place

How to Write a Good Story: Characters

  So, The next few posts will be on how to write a good fictional story. Today we are going to work on characters.
  The characters in a story are WHO the story was about. There are two types of characters: Major Characters and Minor Characters.

Major Characters-
Protagonist: good guy, hero, the one you root for
Antagonist: bad guy, villain, the one you root against

Minor Characters-
The people who fill in the story. Some are more important than others.

How to Create Realistic Characters-

• Give them a name
• Describe what they look like
• Hint at their age
• Give them a personality
• Base them off of people you know
• Give them faults
