Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's prompt: The funeral was at noon

None of us wanted to go to her funeral. We still couldn't believe our best friend was gone.

We all stood in my room dressed in black. Eliza was crying, while the rest of us tried to hold the tears back.

"I just can't believe it," Nancy whispered.

"I know Nancy," I said. "I can't either."

At that moment, my phone buzzed. As I looked around, I saw that all the other girls were checking their phones. I glanced down at mine and saw something impossible.

I had gotten a text from Angel Skye.

ANGEL SKYE

'Hello, my little friends. Wanna play a game?'

"How is this possible?" Daisy gasped.

"This can't be Angel." I shook my head. "And I'm going to find out who it is."

PEGGY MURPHY

'Who are you?'

We all held our breath and waited.

ANGEL SKYE

'Don't you remember me?'

'It's Angel.'

PEGGY MURPHY

'Angel Skye is dead'

We waited again, this time with no response.

"Whoever is doing this, it isn't funny." Eliza said

"This isn't like Angel," I said. "She wasn't like this."

Suddenly, we got a response.

ANGEL SKYE

'One of you killed me.'

I gasped. If one of us killed Angel, then they wouldn't be afraid to do it again. One of us was a killer.

"I think it was Peggy," Nancy said. "She found the body first."

"No, it must have been Eliza," Daisy said. "She was the last one asleep."

"Guys!" I said. "This isn't going to help."

ANGEL SKYE

'I know who it was'

'Good luck figuring it out -Skye'

"Whoever this 'Skye' person is, she wants to turn us against eachother," I said

"Peggy has a point," Eliza said. "What reason would we have to kill her."

"Yeah...I'm sorry guys," Nancy said.

"Me too," Daisy said.

PEGGY MURPHY

'We will find you Skye. And we know you killed Angel."

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's prompt: They live on an island in the middle of a lava lake. It has advantages and disadvantages.

Hi no shina has been my home for as long as I can remember. It's the only place I have ever been safe.

Hi no shina is an island. An island trapped in the middle of a lava lake. This protects us from the outside world and the humans who wish to take our powers. My powers allow me to fly, which is why I am the only one to have ever left the island. That is also why I am now in serious trouble.

"And tell me again, Hiko, why you thought it was a good idea to leave the island," My sister, Sora said. "Could you imagine what would have happened if mom and dad caught you?"

I didn't say anything. I knew as much as anyone else that Sora had always wanted to leave.

"What's it like out there?" Sora finally asked.

"I haven't been very far," I explained, not wanting to tell her the truth. "Never past the lava lake."

"Don't lie," Sora warned.

"It's awful yet beautiful all at the same time," I admitted.

And then I told Sora all about the human world. About all the ladies in beautiful dresses. About all the stunning buildings. About the parties where people danced the night away. About the greedy people who needed objects to be happy. About the cruel places where people were treated unjustly. And then I told her about the people who knew of us. These people who worked to protect us.

Sora listened, taking in every detail I had told her of.

"Take me." She said.

"What?" I asked.

"Take me," Sora repeated. "I want to see the human world."

I tried to protest, but Sora wouldn't hear any of it. She would see the human world. And I would be the one to take her.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's prompt: People are committing strange acts in their sleep.

Our story takes place in a little town in the middle of nowhere. This town is called Heatherfield. The people of Heatherfield were just like any small town people. At least that's what we thought. On the evening of July 4th, Angel Skye invited a few people to her house to watch the fireworks and sleepover. The next morning, when the girls woke up, Angel was nowhere to be found. After hours of searching, one of the girls found the body of Angel Skye laying outside her window. Dead.

I could barely breathe. Right there in front of me was the body of Angel Skye. I had been with her just last night. Riding the Ferris Wheel with her, sharing a milkshake with her at the town diner, and finally watching the fireworks from the roof of her house. And now she was gone. I couldn't bear to see my friend like this, yet I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

I closed my eyes for just a moment, trying to take it all in. I felt something wet slide down my cheek, and I knew I was crying.

"Peggy?" I felt a hand on my shoulder and I knew immediately it was Nancy, Angel's best friend. "Peggy, what's going on?"

"Angel Skye is dead," I said, my voice coming out scratchy and barely audible.

"What?" Nancy asked, not seeming to have heard me.

I lifted a shaking arm and pointed to what Nancy had clearly missed.

"Angel Skye is dead," I repeated.

Nancy screamed.

As I looked closer at the body of my friend, I realized something. Angel's eyes were closed and her face relaxed. She had been asleep when she died.

The other two girls, Eliza and Daisy, came running out at the sound of Nancy's scream. Eliza saw the body first.

"Oh, my goodness...is that Angel?!" Eliza screamed. I nodded slowly, unsure of what to say.

Daisy ran inside to call the police. Nancy and Eliza tried to cover the body with their sweaters. And I just stood there, thinking.

How could this have happened? If Angel was asleep when this happened, then she didn't do it. The only question left was...if it wasn't Angel, then who did it?

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: A sixteen-year-old growing up on a ranch is out in a storm, get hits by lightning, and survives. After that, the kid can hear other people's thoughts.

I don't like to talk about my past. It isn't one most people want to hear about anyway.

My name is Maria.

I'm sixteen.

And if I were in the room with you, I would be able to tell you exactly what you were thinking.

It all started last year. I could see that a storm was coming. A bad one.

Living on a ranch, I knew I had to make sure all the animals were safe. I had thought I had time. But I was wrong. As I frantically ran around, lightning split the sky and the rain poured down. I heard my mother shouting to get back in the house. As I saw the lightning strike again, I knew she was right. The storm was too close. I ran as fast as I could back towards the house.

"Maria!" My mother screamed over the wind and rain. "Hurry!"

But it was too late. The lightning had gotten to me first.

Now, like I said, I don't like to talk about that day. It changed me.

I can hear people's thoughts now. You might think it's amazing to have that ability. It's not. A lot of the time there are so many people, so many thoughts, that it gives you a headache. And you can hear anything bad someone thinks about you. And for the most part, everyone is afraid of you. Even your own mother.

But I still have my father, my brother, and my best friend. And they are all I really need.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: Someone from an alternate universe rings your doorbell. They tell you that you are their favorite book character and that they want to change how your story ends.

For all the crazy things I've imagined in my life, this was probably the craziest thing my mind had come up with. The girl who stood in front of me was small, with bright ginger hair and blue eyes that sparkled with excitement. She was just an ordinary girl. But that wasn't the strange part.

It had been early that morning when there was a knock on the door. I had just barely finished getting dressed when it happened. I didn't answer it at first, expecting one of the servants to get it. But when it came again I knew I was going to have to get it myself. I pulled up my skirts enough that I could get down the stairs as quickly as possible. Apon finally reaching the door I hesitated. I didn't know who was out there. But then I heard a whisper from the other side.

"Miss Alexandra Day...please open the door..."

So I did.

The girl standing on the other side was just an ordinary girl. With an un-ordinary message.

She told me one of the strangest things I had ever heard. She told me that I was her favorite book character and that she wanted to change my ending. That worried me.

"Who are you?' I asked narrowing my eyes.

"Alizia Dean." She explained, still quite hyper. "And we need to get moving before it happens."

This all seemed too real to be something my mind had come up with. Too terrifying.

"Come on!" She yelled grabbing my wrist and pulling me out the door. "Do you want to die?"

I stumbled out the door, not sure what to think. And I was glad I did because not even a second later did the old grey cat knock over a candle, right where I would have been standing. As the floor burst out in flames, I ran. This was no joke. This was real.

Weekly Writing prompt

Today's Prompt: An archeologist finds an ancient library filled with working spell books.

I couldn't believe my eyes. And people said it was impossible.

Through the clearing dust, I could see what the shouts had been about. What everyone had been in such an excitement about. Before me, I saw what the rest of the world thought to be impossible.

On the door, I had seen inscriptions warning that any who told of the secrets inside would be cursed for the rest of their short lives. But now, as I lay on my deathbed, I will tell you what I had seen that fateful day.

The dust had seemed to go on forever. But when it finally cleared I saw the most incredible thing. It was a door. But not just any door. A door carved with old runes protecting my discovery. This was a place of magic.

I still feel that magic with me as I write this very sentence. Which might as well be a death sentence.

The door specifically said that any words spoken after entering would be your last. And a world of silence was worth it to me.

I never got to open that door. And I never will. The door opened on its own.

What I saw when it opened I will never be able to put into words. It was beyond my comprehension. The room was filled with old magic just waiting to be awakened.

In the center of the room, an old book sat on a stand. It called to me. I had to open it. And I did. It was probably the most incredible thing I had ever seen. Although I would be overjoyed to say what I had found, I never will. I must protect the secrets of this magic.

That book showed me many wonderful and enchanting things. That book changed my life. It showed me that this place was not to be disturbed by our modern ways.

I took that book when we left. And I devoted my life to learning it's ways. The magic chose me. And I let it.

My time is up now, for I can barely write another sentence. But I must, I must write an end to my story. Magic is real, and it is just waiting for ordinary people to harness its power.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: A teenager who has spent their entire life on a boat learns there are other people in the world and the live on land.

I lean over the edge of the boat, breathing in the fresh, salt air. I watch as mermaids splash through the waves, slipping under and then jumping up. My bare feet are damp from being continuously splashed by the water leaping up from the sea below. I call it the Jewel of Moreno, as it was called when grandmother was my age.

"Pnevma tou Nerou" I turn around at the sound of my name. A fairy, so pale she is almost translucent stands behind me. Her silver-blue hair trails down her back and ends by her bare feet. She wears only a pale white dress that seems to fade into nothing at the end. I recognize her as grandmother's messenger fairy.

"The captain would like to see you." The fairy says. She flits around nervously, as she knows how my temper can get sometimes. "Captain says it's urgent."

"Tell her I'll be there in a minute," I say without moving. I want to enjoy my surroundings for a little while more since this will be our last time in the cove of the Jewel of Moreno for a very long time.

The fairy glances nervously between me and the front of the ship.

"Captain said now." The fairy flitters behind me. I sigh.

"Fine, go tell her I'm coming." I turn away from the rail, annoyed. What could possibly be so important? The little messenger fairy flies toward the front of the ship, quickly.

"O Thanatos tha pesei apo sas!" I spit and yell after the fairy. She flies just a little faster.

I untuck my skirts from the ocean blue sash tied around my waist and pull my shoes back on. I glance over the edge of the rail one last time to make sure that my appearance is acceptable. I sigh, noticing a strand of my jet black hair has fallen from the neat bun it was placed in that morning. But there is no time to fix that now.

I walk along the wood deck of the Spasmeno Chrono, the ship I live on, to get to the front where the captain stands. Despite her age, she still stands up straight, with perfect posture and grace. She lived to see the time when people still lived on land, with beautiful palaces and balls. I would love to go to a ball, where people wore beautiful gowns, and hair styled to the sky. Where people would dance, and laugh, and enjoy themselves. Where people didn't have to worry about what horrible creatures now live there. I wish I could have lived then.

But I didn't, and there is nothing I can do about that.

"Giagia," I say when I reach the captain. She turns around, and a warm smile spreads across my grandmother's face.

"Pnevma." She says. "I've been expecting you. You seemed to have scared Grasidi. Now, did you spit at her again?"

I look down at my feet. Spitting at a fairy is a sign of utmost disrespect. Grandmother of all people would be upset with me.

"Pnevma! You know better!" Grandmother shakes her head in disapproval. "You should be a proper young lady by now."

"I'm sorry Giagia." I really do try to be proper like mother wants, but I like being free, like grandmother. Unfortunately, grandmother agrees with mother. "What do you need me for Giagia?"

"Grasidi, go find Asteri. Pnevda will need her." Grandmother says sending her fairy to go find mine. "I have something for you, Pnevda."

I see my two older sisters, Angelioforos and Polemistis, coming towards us.

"But let's deal with them first, shall we?" Grandmother whispers to me.

"Grandmother!" Angelioforos says coming up to where we are standing. "Froura has come down with a fever again, and mother requests your presence."

"Tell Theotita I'll be down in a minute," Grandmother says. "I'm busy lecturing Pnevma."

"I will tell her," Angelioforos says. She turns and walks off with Polemistis. I see them giggling as they go, probably about my "lecture".

"Bye Ange! Bye Misti! Tell Mitera and Froura I said hi!" I call after them.

I turn back to Grandmother.

"What is is Giagia?" I ask. She puts her finger to my lips and pulls out a box from behind her back. It's small, about the size of a jewelry box.

Grandmother hands me the box. It feels right to hold it like it was meant for me. I open the lid slowly. Inside is a beautiful gemstone, milky white on the outside, with ocean blue swirling inside. It seems alive, almost like it contains the ocean itself. It's attached to a silver chain. A necklace, I realize.

"Giagia, it's beautiful!" I say throwing my arms around her. Grandmother pulls me off.

"It's special you know. It is the Water Spirit's Stone. Or in the olden language, I Petra tou Pnevmatos tou Nerou." She smiles and tucks the loose strand of hair behind my ear. "It is meant for you."

"Thak you Giagia," I say, stroking the necklace. And the second my finger touches the gem, a flash of ocean blue lightening illuminates the sky. I hear the screams of my mother and sisters from below deck.

Grandmother grabs the stone and hastily throws it around my neck.

"It will keep you safe no matter what Pnevda!" Grandmother calls over the howling wind. "And so will I!."

Rain pours down and I hear lightening crack once again. The ocean tosses are ship around like the little toys I used to play with.

"Pnevda, take the wheel!" Grandmother yells as she runs to the stairs. "I'll help your mother with Froura."

"Giagia!" I scream, but she's too far away to hear.

I turn to the wheel, just in time to see we are headed straight for a huge rock. I scream and am frozen to the spot. But just as we are about to crash, I feel a cold shock from where my necklace now is. I quickly grab the wheel and thrust it to the left, just barely missing the rock. I hear thunder crack, and lightning hits right where our sale is. I scream again, as the fire begins to spread down the mast. The was rock the boat viciously, and waves crash over the edge. The hem of dress it soaked, and the wind has torn my hair into a mess.

I see flames creeping towards me, and I run to the back of the ship, abandoning the wheel. The wind has full control of the ship now anyway. I keep running, trying not to slip on the wet deck.

But despite my efforts, I slip and fall. The ship tilts hard to the left, and I am flung across the deck. My dress rips on the old wood, and I lose a shoe. A wave crashes onto the ship and pulls me closer to the edge. I grab onto the rail as I dangle off the ship. I scream as the ship dunks me into the water momentarily. And then I see a wave jump up at me. It submerges me as it washes onto the deck. My grip falters, and the ocean recedes, carrying me with it.

____________________________________________

I wake up in a puddle of water, seaweed, and wet sand. I cough up some water and open my eyes. I don't know where I am. I try to stand, but fall right back down. I try again, this time I manage to stand, weakly. At least I'm standing. I'm dripping wet, with seaweed draped all over me. My dress is ripped, and my feet are only covered by half a sock. My hair is matted and tangled, and still half in my bun. Every inch of me is covered in cuts, bruises, and sand. And then I realize where I am.

I am on land.

I see nicely dressed people walking around on a wooden path above the sand. I see buildings beyond that. I see trees in the far distance. I am on land.

And I am alive.

I collapse back to the ground in a fit of laughter. And I barely manage to hear someone scream before everything goes black.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: The pen wasn't worth stealing.

The cell is cold and hard, made out of polished marble. Water drips down around me, the only sound in the whole jail. It's dark and the hard bench makes it hard to sleep. And I've heard there's worse.

This is all because of Mai. She told me to capture the Pen. We ended up in the Pen.

I stare at the wall, counting the drops of water that fall. 29, 30, 31.

Suddenly, I hear the door at the far end of the room open, and lights flood the room. I hear the sound of boots walking against the perfectly clean room. I glance through the electric bars of my cell. Two Guards walk into the room, followed by that stupid girl.

"Hello there Rebels." She says smiling one of her stupid smiles. "My name is Thane. Maris Thane. To day you will be tested to see if you are innocent or not."

I spit on the ground in front of her.

"Unfortunately," she continues glancing my way. "You are going to have to wear these." She holds up a black metal collar.

"They aren't the most comfortable things, and they don't exactly come off either." She says, almost sypethetically. And then I notice she is wearing one too.

Thane goes around snapping the collars around our necks. When she gets to me she snaps it on tightly and whispers to me.

"Good luck Skydart." Thane winks at me and moves on.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: There was a strange wailing sound coming from the next room.

The day started out like any other. I was perched on the edge of my bed brushing my caramel colored hair. It was early morning and I was still wearing my nightgown. The town was just waking up, but I was up early. We had a lot of preparing to do today. At dawn tomorrow morning, the new sorcerer of Fareya would be named. My entire childhood I dreamed of the day I would be eligible, hoping it would be me. I still fantasize sometimes, but it could never be me. The sorcerer must be the rightful heir, and I am just a simple village girl. There I go again letting my fantasies get the best of me. I continued to brush my hair to get it as silky as possible for easy styling when I hear the ear piercing wail from the next room. I knew at once what it was.

A banshee.

And the room next to mine was...Gin's room.

Oh no, I thought, Gin please be okay. I quickly ran into Gin's room armed with just my hairbrush. When I enter I didn't see a banshee. Instead, I saw Gin leaning out her window. She let out another banshee scream as I ran next to her. Some horrid green creature around two feet tall was running away from her window. I cupped my hand around my mouth and let out the highest pitched scream I could manage. Finally, the creature was out of sight.

"What was that thing?" Gin asked, her voice sounding a little shaky. I shrugged.

"How should I know. It was in your room." I responded. "What I want to know is how you knew how to get rid of it?"

"I...I guess I just knew Gemma." She said.

I launched into a tight hug.

"Well, as long as your okay," I said. Gin was my best friend, and she had been since I found her on the streets six years ago. She was just a little shorter than I was and just a little paler. While my hair was caramel hers was more of a chocolaty brown. What we did have in common were our eyes. We shared the same light blue eyes, mine had a golden ring around the pupil, and hers was gray. Even though we looked quite different, my parents called us to peas in a pod.

But something felt different today, and when we pulled away from each other I knew. Gin now stood at my height, maybe even taller. She was a little paler than usual and her eyes had turned from light to a dip endless blue with her pupils lined in silver.

"What?" she asked when she saw me looking at her strangely.

"Nothing," I said. "Now come on and get ready." I forced a smile.

I didn't know it then but I missed the most obvious signs that our lives were about to change.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: There are many theories as to why she was murdered.

I am here today to tell you the story of my life. Well, not exactly. I am here to put the rumors to rest.

I am here today to tell you why my life ended.

My name was Mai. I was nineteen. I had lost my family years ago. There was one person in the world who cared for me. He saved my life, gave up everything he believed in, just to try to be the family I lost. I let him down.

It might have been my rebellious thoughts, but I doubt it. t may have been my ignorance, but it wasn't. I know what it was. And that's what I'm about to tell you.

The day started out like any other. An, the man who pretended to be my brother, the only one left in the world who cared about me, was already awake. As usual. We ate breakfast together, as usual. He left to make money for us to live off, as usual. But that day I had enough. I followed him. I know it sounds ridiculous, but all these years I never knew what he did.

I snuck out after him. I raced down the wooden staircase, careful not to trip as always. I ran until I reached the center of Shoquer. By now, An was nowhere to be seen, so I walked around looking. Nothing. I felt a hand pull at the silver bracelet my mother gave me before she died. I grabbed the hand and turned around to face the stupid scavenger who thought I wouldn't notice. I hated them. All of them. I looked straight at the person. My eyes went wide. No. it couldn't be.

"An" I squeaked, barely even a whisper. It couldn't be.

"Mai," he started. But I wasn't going to hear any of it.

"You lied to me," I whispered. I turned and ran.

I heard him call me but I couldn't come back.

I was crying so hard I couldn't see. I didn't see the transport coming towards me. It slammed into me. I fell to the ground. I couldn't breathe. I felt someone's arms around me, and without opening my eyes I knew it was An.

Basically, after that, I was taken to the capital to be taken care of. They lied to An and said I wouldn't live. They gave him the option to clone me, but in the process, I would die. He thought I would die anyway, so he said yes.

I'm not an idiot. I know why they did it. I have always dreamed of becoming a rebel. Thy knew that. So they created their perfect clone instead. But I took one look into her eyes and knew she wasn't as perfect as they planned.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: You can perform spells. But only for one day.

I stare at the shattered vase on the ground. I slowly look up, my hands shaking. That did not just happen. I just didn't. It was impossible. But it happened.

"Gin." a shaky voice says from across the room. I turn to meet the eyes of my only friend.

"Gemma," I say slowly walking towards her. "Gemma please, I don't know what happened."

"You know full well what happened," Gemma says standing. "You were chosen at the ceremony. You can't avoid your destiny."

"Gemma I can't go back. I don't want this." I choke back a sob. Gemma runs over and wraps her arms around me.

"But if you go back, your powers will last more than a day," Gemma whispers. "You will go to the ritual and get your full powers."

"I don't want them Gem. I want what I have. Not all this magic. I hate magic, and you know that." I tell her.

"Someone will find out Gin, you can't hide this forever," Gemma says. I know it's the truth. I just don't want to admit it.

"Then I'm leaving," I say. I know she is going to argue with me, but nothing she says will change my mind.

"No. You are not leaving," she says. I sigh. "We are leaving." My eyes go wide. Gemma wouldn't even dare to think of something like that. I start to protest but remember this is her choice.

"Are you sure?" Gemma nods. "Meet me here in five minutes.."

We both turn to leave. I'm glad Gemma is coming with me. I'd be lonely without her.

I don't think I will ever get used to magic. But if we leave, I never will. Gemma thinks having magic is a gift. But she doesn't understand. I see it as a curse.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: Your character throws a coin in the fountain.

I walk along the street, my long messy red hair covering my face, my blue eyes turned to the ground. I find a park bench and sit down to relax. I watch the people around me going on with their day. I do this every day, and often see some of the same people. Although I see someone new today. A girl about my age with brown hair and green eyes. She sits on the edge of a fountain fumbling with the silver coin in her hand. I watch her intently waiting to see what she was going to do. She sits there for a while longer before flipping the coin into the air. I watch as it lands, cutting through the water with a splash. I watch as she gets up and walks away, and I feel drawn to the fountain. It seems to call my name. I walk over and sit down, searching through my pocket for some sort of coin. I come up with the same coin that I saw the other girl holding. I drop it in and it hits the water and sinks slowly. I get up and walk away. And I swear it glitters when I turn and look back.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: You wake up one morning and find everyone in the house asleep. Not just the house, the whole world. You go online and find a blog post "Anyone else awake?". There are three comments.

My vision was blurry as I blinked my eyes open. The sun shone through the curtains, blinding me like it always did. But unlike every day, something was wrong. The birds were missing. Every day I woke up to the sun in my face and birds chirping. It was silent. Apparently, I was the first one awake. What time was it anyway? I leaned over, but in only added to my confusion. The clock read 12:00. Everyone in the house was usually awake by 7:00. I finally got myself out of bed and wandered towards the stairs. As I passed my sister's room, I heard no snoring but when I looked in she was sound asleep. Strange. The same situation in my parent's room as well. I found my cats laying on the ground asleep as well. Suddenly it hit me, they were in some sort of comma. Panic stricken, I ran outside and began knocking on doors. Not a soul was awake. I think I had some sort of mental breakdown, but everything was such a blur that I don't really remember. I found myself crying on the floor of the kitchen. I wiped my eyes and ran back up to my room. I flicked the light switch as I entered, but the lights stayed dim. Of course, The power must be out. I sat down, flipped open my laptop, and began to search for anything. I didn't know what I was looking for, but I found something. It was a blog post titled, "Anyone else awake?". I clicked on it. There were three comments.

So, I love this prompt so much that I am going to turn it into a story with chapters and all. Also, I will be adding some art soon, since I don't really have any yet.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: Pick up the book you are currently reading and turn to page 37. Use the first line of the page as the beginning of your story.

Riding on something that doesn't move,
spinning your wheels endlessly.
Like the wheel of life that you can never leave,
you can only fall off.
Hold on to that wheel as long as you can,
for no one can climb down.

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: Pretend you are carried away by a bunch of balloons.

She walks quietly in the wind, her hair flowing behind her. Her bunch of colorful  balloons is swept up in the wind, carrying her with them. She can see the world from above. She sees a man sitting on the park bench, reading the daily newspaper. She sees a woman walking her dog, and a child eating an ice cream cone. She sees ducks waddling from a pond. She rises higher. Soon her feet touch the tips of the clouds, and she looks up. She wonders what will happen to her. When will she stop?

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt: Pretend you are a leaf. Describe fall.

My connection weakens
my life slips away
for it is fall
and I am a leaf

Nothing more
nothing less

My stem breaks
and I spiral towards the ground
towards my grave
for I am a leaf

Nothing more
nothing less

I hit the ground
turning brown
my life ends
for I am a leaf

Nothing more
nothing less

Weekly Writing Prompt

Today's Prompt:  Imagine you found an old treasure map.  Where does it lead and what do you find?

There I was, standing at the mouth of a cave. It was in there, I knew it was. It had all started a few days ago.  I had been in the attic of an old house, when I spotted an old map tacked to the wall.  In the corner of the map, it told there would be great treasure at the end of the trail. I had taken the old map down and gotten ready to follow the path laid out for me. I had followed the map all the way to Cold Spring, NY.  I had followed the map though the trees, stopping only one to eat the pie I had with me. There I was, standing at the mouth of a cave. Do I dare go in? Do I dare stay out?
